Killing of female Pakistani doctor in US is heinous violence: Ambassador

Masood Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, has condemned the killing of Dr. Talat Jahan Khan of Pakistani origin in Houston, calling it a heinous and horrific act of violence.

On October 28, a female doctor of Pakistani origin was stabbed to death by an assailant while she was sitting at a picnic table outside her apartment in Conroe, North of Houston, Texas, USA.

Pakistani Ambassador Masood Khan in a statement on Tuesday condemned the killing of Dr. Talat Jahan Khan and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

The statement said that Dr. Talat Khan had moved to America from Karachi in the late 90s and had been serving in America for a long time as a pediatrician.

CARE, a major Muslim human rights organization in America, said in a statement that its Texas office is in contact with law enforcement agencies over the murder of a Muslim woman in Conroe.

The Pakistani ambassador said in a statement that according to reports, the accused has been arrested by the police and the investigation is ongoing.

The ambassador said that ‘Pakistani Embassy in Washington and Consulate General in Houston are contacting the bereaved family and concerned authorities to find out the facts.’

Pakistani Ambassador Masood Khan described the incident as ‘appalling’ and a heinous act of violence and said: ‘Dr Talat Jahan Khan was a healthcare professional and a beloved member of the Pakistani American community.’

Ambassador Masood Khan said that he spoke to Dr. Arshad Rehan, president of the organization of Pakistani-origin doctors in the United States, Dr. Arshad Rehan, and expressed the hope that the law enforcement agencies in the United States would soon complete the investigation of the matter and bring justice. In his personal messages to the bereaved family, the Ambassador also assured all possible support from the Pakistani Embassy and Consulate in Houston in the last rites of the deceased.
