Security in Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, will be beefed up after Russia’s ballistic missile attacks and increased threats. An official in Kiev said this on Thursday (March 28). British news agency Reuters reported this news.
Russia has carried out several airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy systems in the past week. Moscow described the attack as part of a series of attacks in retaliation for Kiev’s bombing of Russian territory.
Over the past few days, Russia has increased the number of ballistic missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. They are faster and harder to shoot down than normal cruise missiles.
Serhii Popko, head of Kiev’s military administration, said the city’s defense council would review public events and tighten security at large gatherings.
He said the decision was made because Russia’s military is using missiles that can hit targets within minutes of launch.
Ukrainian officials say Russian spies and other enemies may be trying to infiltrate the city. He said, I will ask the Kievans to be calm. Don’t panic. We are taking preventive measures and the citizens of Kyiv are safe.
Ukrainian officials have regularly asked Western allies for more air defense systems and ammunition. They say they are crucial to deter Russian missile and drone attacks.
