Kevin Ortega was in charge at the 2024 Copa America

The date 3 of the Clausura Tournament for the League 1 I Bet You 2024 will have as its main attraction the confrontation between University of Sports and Lima Alliance at the Monumental stadium. The Classic will be directed by the experienced Kevin Ortega.

The National Commission of Referees (CONAR) appointed Kevin Ortega as the central referee for the match between Universitario and Alianza Lima. Ortega, of FIFA category, will be accompanied by the assistants Michael Orué and Jesús SánchezThe fourth referee will be Luis Seminario. In the VAR, Joel Alarcon will be in charge, with Johny Bossio as assistant, both also of FIFA category.

Balance before the classic

Ortega, 32, already has experience in Peruvian football classics. This season, he has refereed three Universitario matches: the 2-0 victory over Sport Huancayo, the 0-0 draw with César Vallejo in Trujillo, and the 0-0 draw with Cienciano in Cusco.

Regarding Alianza Lima, Ortega was in charge of the 1-3 victory over Unión Comercio, the 1-2 defeat against Sporting Cristal and the loss in Arequipa against Melgar. The match at the Monumental will be his first game for the Clausura Tournament.

Ortega was the referee in the first leg of the 2023 Liga 1 final, where Universitario and Alianza Lima tied 1-1 at the Monumentalshowing six yellow cards in that match.
