Kerala Congress MLA Siddiqui said this on the landslide in Wayanad

WayanadWayanad: Following the devastation caused by the landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad, Congress MLA and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary T Siddique vowed to revive the affected community, stressing on unity beyond caste, religion or politics. “We will rebuild every person here, their life, their shelter, their livelihood, their education, all will be resolved. We are together beyond caste, religion, politics, everything. We are focusing on that now,” Siddique told ANI. Speaking about the rescue efforts, Siddique said, “In the first phase, we are focusing on the rescue of people. In the second phase, the focus will be on medical treatment of the injured person and management of relief camps. This is a big difficulty. The third phase is rehabilitation,” he said.

The landslides that occurred at Choorlamala and Mundakkai in Wayanad on July 30 claimed the lives of 308 people. Earlier today, Union Minister and BJP MP from Thrissur Suresh Gopi visited Wayanad district in Kerala to assess the situation caused by the landslide in the region. Search and rescue operations in Kerala’s Wayanad entered its sixth day on Sunday as several people are still feared trapped under the debris following the landslides at Choorlamala and Mundakkai in Wayanad.

Giving information about the rescue operation, Wayanad District Collector Meghashri told ANI that the rescue operation is in full swing and more than 1300 forces have been deployed for today’s operation. Wayanad District Collector told ANI, “Rescue operation is going on in full swing. More than 1,300 security forces are deployed today…volunteers are also there…yesterday the volunteers who went for the rescue operation got stuck there, today we are taking precautions so that this does not happen.” Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister’s Office has informed that police night patrolling has been started in Choorlamalla and Mundakkai areas where the landslide occurred.

The statement from the CM’s office said that action will be taken against those who enter the homes or areas of the victims at night. It said that no one should enter the homes or areas of these places at night without the permission of the police for the purpose of rescue operations.

On Saturday, the Indian Air Force airlifted one ZAWER and four REECO radars from Siachen and Delhi to speed up search operations in the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad. On the same day, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully rescued three personnel trapped at Soochipara waterfalls in Kerala’s landslide-hit Wayanad district. The death toll in the massive landslide that struck Choorlamala and Mundakkai in Wayanad on July 30 has risen to 308 as of Friday, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said.

According to the latest update, 215 bodies and 143 body parts have been recovered, which include 98 men, 87 women and 30 children. Post-mortem process on 212 bodies and 140 body parts has been completed and so far 148 bodies have been identified by relatives. (ANI)
