The Kazakhstan national kokpar team won a confident victory over the United States team in the quarterfinals of the 5th World Nomad Games, which are taking place in Astana, Liter.kz reports with reference to press service Center for national and equestrian sports.
“The game ended with a score of 12:4 in favor of the Kazakh team, ensuring its entry into the semi-finals of the tournament,” the report from September 10 said.
Kokpar is a traditional game popular among nomadic peoples, and the participation of the US team was a notable event in the context of expanding cultural ties and popularizing traditional sports on the world stage. The Kazakhstan team demonstrated its skill and clear superiority, confidently defeating its opponents.
Interestingly, this is not the first meeting of the Kazakhstan and US teams at these Games. In the qualifying round, the Kazakhstan team defeated the Americans with a score of 18:0, demonstrating its strength and preparation for the tournament.
In total, teams from nine countries take part in the kokpar competition: Kazakhstan, the USA, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, China, Mongolia and Turkey. The kokpar tournament is one of the central events of the World Nomad Games, which serve as an important platform for preserving and popularizing the cultural heritage of nomadic peoples, their traditional sports and arts.
“The final of the competition will take place on September 12, where the strongest teams will compete for the title of champion of the 5th World Nomad Games,” the center’s press service added.
