Kazakhstanis will be able to fly to Armenia more often

Airlines of Kazakhstan and Armenia will be able to operate mutual flights without restrictions. Also, Kazakh road carriers received an exemption from paying road and environmental taxes on the territory of Armenia, Liter.kz reports with reference to the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

As part of the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Armenia, in order to develop transport cooperation between the two countries, a Protocol on amendments and additions to the intergovernmental Agreement on international road transport of November 6, 2006 and a Memorandum of Understanding between the aviation authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Armenia were signed.

In accordance with the signed memorandum, air carriers of the two countries received the right to operate flights to authorized points on the territory of Armenia and Kazakhstan (Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Aktau, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Kokshetau, Taraz, Petropavlovsk, Semey, Turkestan, Aktobe) with using the third, fourth and fifth degrees of “freedom of air” without restrictions on the number of frequencies, capacity and types of aircraft. In addition, the Kazakh side granted permission to Armenian Airlines LLC to operate regular flights on the Yerevan-Ashgabat-Astana route with commercial rights until the end of 2027, the Ministry of Transport reported.

A package of amendments to the intergovernmental Agreement provides for the creation of a permitting system for the road transportation of goods to/from third countries, as well as the exemption of Kazakh carriers from road and environmental payments for bilateral and transit cargo transportation (on the territory of the Republic of Armenia, about $100 of environmental tax is charged from each vehicle).

Let us recall that in 2023, import-export transportation by road between Kazakhstan and Armenia amounted to 6,936 tons, which is 21% more than in 2022 (5,748 tons). The main goods transported are prepared food products, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, machinery, mechanisms and equipment.
