Kazakh human rights activist Margarita Uskembaeva has died

The death of human rights activist Margarita Uskembaeva was reported on her Facebook page by Mazhilis deputy Irina Smirnova, Liter.kz reports.

According to the deputy, Margarita Uskembaeva was a person with a capital letter.

“Citizen of the country, feminist, defender of women and children in difficult life situations, victims of domestic violence, public figure, scientist, psychologist. We can go on and on about who she was to many. For a long time she carried out her social activities without any support. Without payment. No grants. Working as a psychologist in a school and kindergarten. Then she received a very small government grant to organize a crisis center for women victims of domestic violence. In her center, women, and with them children, found support. She built this activity with all her heart. It provided women with the opportunity to receive medical care, legal support, and psychological support. She assigned everyone to study so that women would get a profession, and with it, self-confidence. She took care of children who ended up at the center with their mothers. Placed jobs in schools and kindergartens. I found an opportunity to get beautiful new clothes and stationery. After all, many children have never had this. She provided cultural leisure for such suffering families. Trips to the theater, circus, parks, mountains, cafes… Her charges learned about a different life. Not in violence, but in love and care. And they began to live differently,” writes Irina Smirnova.

She also added that the human rights activist remained persistent, strong and caring until her last days.
