The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, reappeared with great elegance on the Buckingham balcony, accompanying the royal family in her first public event since announcing her cancer diagnosis. This event marked their first official event since the Christmas mass at Sandringham almost six months ago. Kensington Palace clarified that his participation does not imply a full return to public duties for him, although he is expected to make occasional appearances alongside Prince William over the summer. The royal motorcade left Buckingham Palace at 10:30 local time, with Charles and Camilla in their own carriage. The king, although he wanted to ride a horse, decided not to after consulting with doctors and under the influence of Camila, who has asked him to slow down after his own cancer diagnosis. Kate, smiling for much of the journey, greeted the thousands of Brits crowded into the London mall.

Arriving at Horse Guards Parade, Kate steadily descended from the royal carriage, accompanied by her children. From the window of the Duke of Wellington’s former office, they watched the parade of 1,400 soldiers, 400 musicians and 200 horses. As colonel of the Irish Guards, Kate delegated the troop review to Lieutenant General James Bucknall due to his health condition. In his last message, Kate announced that his chemotherapy treatment continues and that he plans to participate in some public events over the summer, although he is not completely out of the woods.

Kensington Palace stressed that the princess’s recovery and well-being is the priority, and plans can change as necessary. Despite her situation, Kate showed no signs of weakness and the ceremony went off without a hitch. The 41 salutes from Green Park mingled with the midday thunder, and the royal family was cheered as they took up their positions on the Buckingham balcony. Charles and Camilla stood in the center, with Kate to the monarch’s right and William behind her, accompanied by her children.

The Red Arrows parade, which left a blue, white and red trail, culminated an event full of color and emotion. Despite showing signs of fatigue, Charles III was delighted with Kate’s presence on her big day. Trooping the Color is traditionally held to mark the birthdays of monarchs, and this year Charles III will celebrate his 76th birthday on November 14.
