In Chios, Psara and Lesvos, Stefanos Kasselakis continues his tour of the Aegean islands for the 8th day – Video with the conversations he had

For the 8th day, the president of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Stefanos Kasselakis, continues his tour of the Aegean islands, who after Chios arrived at noon on Saturday 27/4 in Psara, Greece.

“The children leave, they don’t come back, and as the years go by this is not replaced, the place languishes” was the characteristic complaint expressed by a 68-year-old resident of the island, who did not leave his place, in a heartfelt conversation with Stefanos Kasselakis .

The president of SYRIZA-PS also spoke with the doctor of Psara about the difficulties he faces in the exercise of his duties on the small island of the northeastern Aegean. “At the beginning, everything is difficult,” said the young doctor characteristically, “you have to coordinate with EKAV, with Chios, to organize the transfers. The case of a 47-year-old bleeding last month was typical, where due to the weather I had to stay with the patient for 12 hours until he was transferred across the street, to Chios.”

Stefanos Kasselakis’ next stop is Lesvos where he arrived late on Saturday afternoon.

The outbreak of residents in Chios

Stefanos Kasselakis had the opportunity to talk to dozens of residents on the main street of Chios shortly before leaving for Psara. The president of SYRIZA – PS spoke in a warm atmosphere, listened to the problems of the citizens, while there was no shortage of selfies and video calls.

The day started with the president of SYRIZA-PS discussing the problems that have arisen with second chance schools. In particular, he was informed by the vice-president of the Panhellenic Association of Principals of Second Chance Schools about the problem that has arisen with KYA, which excludes these schools from school transportation, with the result that the students travel by their own means, bearing unaffordable costs. “The social base to which this program is addressed is not close to the privatization of education for this reason and was excluded,” commented Mr. Kasselakis.

St. commented on the case of fixed-term Border Guards for whom joint service is not provided, with the result that a family expecting a child is forced to live separately and there is the possibility of unemployment for one of the two parents. Kasselakis. “We need to highlight this issue not only because it is the moral thing to do for this family but mainly because this story shows how immoral the state is sometimes. The state can be so inhumane in order to achieve supposedly fiscal goals that it tells you “you guys with fixed-term contracts live in great insecurity” and basically your colleague can’t start a family for you.

Stefanos Kasselakis greeted a small child, while the guardian was telling him that the gentleman speaking will one day become prime minister, with the president of SYRIZA – PS answering the people by saying “together we will build the future”.

At the same time, he spoke with a shop owner who made a dramatic appeal for help. “People want help, they’ve reached the amen. Somebody help guys. We want what you say to be done not like the others. Education, zero, health, zero. Here, little by little, they die helpless in the hospitals,” the shopkeeper emphasized, mentioning that when there are vacancies for doctors and teachers in Chios, they appoint the residents to other areas. “They break up families,” he said, with Stefanos Kasselakis replying: “This is their philosophy, to have a dependent people. This is how the right is elected.”

Citizens also underlined their appreciation for Admiral Apostolakis, the SYRIZA-PS state deputy accompanies the president on the tour as he knows in depth the issues of island Greece.
