The fire at Salam Jute Mill in Rupsa, Khulna has come under partial control. 16 units comprising of fire service and navy fire unit brought the fire under partial control after more than five hours of efforts.

He said that a fire broke out in the jute warehouse of Salam Jute Mill located in Jabusa area of ​​Rupsa Upazila on Wednesday (April 3) around 5:30 pm. A total of 16 fire service units including two from the Navy along with Khulna and Bagerhat are working to control the fire. The fire was partially brought under control around 10:30 pm.

Eyewitnesses said that the fire spread quickly due to dry jute at Salam Jute Mill. As a result, there is a lot of speed to extinguish the fire. Yarn and exportable jute products were stored there. Mainly jute yarn was produced. First, the fire broke out in warehouse number 3 of the jute mill. Later spread to different warehouses.

The mill authorities said that 750 tons of yarn produced in the mill was stocked.

The jute mill workers said that the jute mill suddenly caught fire in the afternoon. On receiving the information, 14 units of the fire service started working to control the fire. They were joined by two units of the Navy. The fire is still not under control. A lot of jute was burnt in the fire. It is initially believed that the fire may have started from an electrical short circuit.

Jute mill owner MMA Salam said that about 750 tons of exportable jute products, about 35 thousand maunds of raw jute and mill machinery were burnt in the fire. The total loss will exceed 125 crore rupees. He is insured for Rs 50 crore in Continental Insurance.
