Julián Román assured that he would never run as a congressman: “That’s disgusting”

One of the most established actors in the country, he is also one of the most controversial when it comes to opinion. Julián Román is always attentive to the decisions made in the Congress of the Republic and through his social networks he does not hide his feelings and thoughts regarding them.

The professional in dramatic arts who began his career in 1988, has had various opportunities to enter the world of politics in positions of great importance for the nation, which, as indicated in an interview conducted by journalist María Camila Díaz on her YouTube channel, he has refused repeatedly, because the world he knew “is disgusting.”

His blunt and direct comments have caused many people on social networks to call him “Petrista” or “Leftist”, and although he does not regret having campaigned for the current president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, he did indicate that in his career as an actor he has preferred to stay away from politics by occupying seats in congress.

The actor said that his way of being online is identical to his ordinary personality. When the aforementioned journalist questioned him about this attitude, Román stated that: “It has always been like this, what happened in 2019 and 2020 was so viral” that people believed that he was specifically against former president Iván Duque.

To justify this response, he stated that since he was young he had challenged what he did not see as logical, saying that at school he questioned that this institution taught only Catholicism in religion class when it called itself secular.

He also mentioned different anecdotes as an actor, such as his participation in the actors’ union: “when I was on the board of directors, we never went on strike, we never used that terminology to demand agreements.”

“I want to make something clear. I have said it to everyone and I repeat it to you, I will never enter politics,” Román continued when referring to Colombian politics, indicating that “what I saw there I don’t like at all, but my work and my life have to do with politics,” because, as the actor said, “those who are there are the ones who make whether the dollar goes up or down, if there is a daddy or no daddy. How not to give an opinion, how not to say.”

Given this, the journalist reminded him that on several occasions he has been proposed to be part of a political party, to which the actor said “for that very reason, that’s why it makes me sick.” Although he did not mention any political party, he did confirm that there have been several who have tried to convince him to play for them, “I receive letters from many, ‘come on Julián, you are not interested, see that there are closed lists in congress’.”

Among the reasons why he does not plan to enter this space is because “there should be statesmen in Congress. I believe that the Congress we have today and the characters we have today are because anyone can enter there.”

Finally, he recalled that the hypocrisy in this space is real, but against the Colombians, because the politicians “don’t hate each other, they go to lunch together and drink whiskey without a problem, and they are very good friends. And the cameras arrive and ‘that unfortunate guerrilla’ and the other ‘that paraco’.” However, he stated that he would continue participating in politics, overseeing, because “thanks to the fact that several of us participated, today we actors are known as workers.” With Infobae
