CULTURE – Judith Godrèche has spoken out more and more often in recent weeks to denounce the influence exerted on her by Benoît Jacquot, when he was 40 and she was 14. On the set of Daily this Monday, January 8, the actress was on the verge of tears after the airing of an excerpt from a documentary in which the director talks about their relationship.
Judith Godrèche saw this archive for the first time just a few days ago. She was sent to him by an unknown person. This is what pushed her for the first time to openly say the name of the director with whom she had a violent relationship on her social networks, to denounce him.
ON Daily, explains that the images from the 2011 documentary did it “made sick”. His voice becomes harsh, he can’t continue speaking for several seconds. Then he manages to compose himself: “Seeing him turn me into an object and talk about me as something, talk in my place, talk about my desire… It was so violent. »
“At 14 years old, consent does not exist”
In this documentary, Benoît Jacquot says he is aware of the “transgression” of this relationship with what was just a teenager. “ At least as far as the law is concerned (…) we don’t have the right in principle, I think “, we can hear him reply. She adds: ” She didn’t care about that at all and it turned her on a lot too, I’d say. »
Judith Godrèche, now 51 years old, she says “starts shaking” after hearing these words. “My children were waiting for me for dinner, I couldn’t leave my room, I vomited. I’m still trying to figure out why it’s so violent for me.”continues the actress who mentioned this story in the semi-autobiographical miniseries Icon of French cinema released in December.
She protests again: “I didn’t even know what consent was. There was no consent, consent does not exist at 14 years old. We do not consent to and are not thrilled with the idea of sleeping with a 40 year old man at 14 years old. »
” A monster “
“He reverses roles, projects his excitement onto me. I experienced this sexualization, but to still see him talk and use those words… It was a shock. (…) Hearing him talk in a very worldly way, laughing, boasting… the impunity is at such a level”he complains.
For her this documentary rises “the enjoyment of the monster” : “I feel like I’m seeing a monster and he talks like a monster. » He still remembers this period which he compares to a ” cult ” : “It’s like being under the influence of a leader who has taken the place of the father, the mother, the law, the job. It was my whole world. »
Getting rid of this influence was not easy and took several years. But if she had gone to the set of Daily and if he finally speaks out years after the fact, it is for “ to once again become the subject of (his) life and not an object in the mouth of another”.
