Judith Godrèche denounces the “control” that the director had over her during her adolescence

It’s no longer a question of not saying his name. The actress Judith Godrèche denounced on social networks this weekend the support enjoyed in the world of the seventh art by the director Benoît Jacquot, with whom she had a relationship when she was a teenager, and who has never hidden his attraction for the very young actresses.

“The little girl in me can no longer remain silent about this name”he wrote in a story posted on Instagram, which was deleted before being put back online on Monday, in which he talks“check”. “His name is Benoît Jacquot. He still manipulates those who might associate their names with mine. Witness. He threatens to take me to court for defamation”says the 51-year-old actress, considering the director is “esteemed for his perversion”.

The latter has spoken a lot recently about her relationship of several years with the director twenty-five years older than her, in the series Icon of French cinema on Arte, but he had never questioned the director so explicitly. When asked by Agence France-Presse, Benoît Jacquot did not want to react.

“Everything was known” in the sector, denounces the actress

“Who has respect for BJ’s practices? Known to everyone for 35 years? Who approves and validates? The agent representing him? Who introduced me to you when I was 14? Its producer? Same thing. (…) Where does this feeling of impunity come from? Everything was known. And the same ones are on the maneuvers”he continues, saying he fears this will happen “turn your back”after these words.

His speech was motivated by watching the documentary The Forbiddenby Gérard Miller, from 2011, in which Benoît Jacquot declares that he accepts his past relationship with the teenager, he said. In an excerpt from the documentaryshared numerous times on social media, the director states in particular: “Yes, it is definitely a transgression. If nothing else in terms of the law (…) we don’t have the right, in principle, I think. A girl, like her, this Judith who was actually 15 years old, and I was 40, in principle I had no right, I don’t think. But damn, she didn’t give a damn and that turned her on quite a bit too, I’d say. »

“The fact is that, in a certain sense, cinema was a kind of cover, in the sense that we have cover for this or that illicit trafficking (…) for a morality of this kind, I will certainly say, Benoît Jacquot declares again in front of the camera, before adding: “And at the same time in the cinematographic field we feel that there is a certain esteem, or a certain admiration, for what undoubtedly others would also like to practice”.

Judith Godrèche revealed herself Beggars by Jacquot (1988) then The Disenchanted (1990). The filmmaker has built his work around actresses, stars like Isabelle Huppert or debutants like Isild Le Besco, Maïwenn’s sister, revealed at 18 in Sade (2000), the first of their six films together.
