In recent days the French actress has intervened more frequently to testify about her relationship with the director, when she was still a teenager. “The little girl in me can’t keep quiet about this name anymore,” she posted on Instagram last weekend.
“It made me feel bad”: this Monday Judith Godrèche spoke, with tears in her eyes and a tight throat, on the set of Quotidien. She reacted to an excerpt from a 2011 documentary broadcast on social networks, in which director Benoît Jacquot talks about their relationship.
At the time he was 40 years old, she was 14 (15, according to the director). «It was clearly a transgression», she admits in the video archive, before adding «but she didn’t care about that at all (…), it turned her on a lot, I would say».
The French actress, disgusted, then decided to speak in public. On Monday you denounced on social networks the support that Benoît Jacquot enjoys in the film sector.
“The little girl in me can no longer keep this name quiet,” she said in a message posted on Instagram last weekend, which was deleted before being put back online on Monday, where she talks about “control” and “perversion.”
This new testimony comes in the midst of a rift in French cinema caused by the famous actor Gérard Depardieu, indicted for rape and widely criticized after the diffusion of images in which he made misogynistic comments.
It’s not a secret
On the occasion of the broadcast of her series “Icon of French cinema” on the Arte television channel at the end of December, the director, now 51 years old, had already mentioned this relationship with the French filmmaker 25 years her senior. But until now she had never questioned the director so explicitly.

Judith Godrèche initially wanted the series not to be overshadowed “by this person’s name”. It was watching the interview with Benoît Jacquot that caused the shock, the actress explains on the show Quotidien.
“Seeing him turn me into an object, speaking for me, speaking about my desire, it was so violent,” says the stuttering actress. She also explains that she “started shaking” and “vomited.”
“Estimated for his perversion”
“He threatens to take me to court for defamation,” says the actress in her story posted on Instagram, believing that the filmmaker is “esteemed for his perversion.”
“Who has respect for BJ’s practices? Known by everyone for 35 years? Who endorses and validates? The agent who represents him? (…) Where does this feeling of impunity come from? Everything was known. And the same people I’m on the move,” she continues, saying she fears people will “turn their backs” on her after these comments.
When asked by AFP, Benoît Jacquot did not want to comment. “I can only film an actress if I am in love with her,” the director said in 2009 in the newspaper Le Figaro.
