Jr Torres, Ulises Cárdenas and Oscar Calin dream big

On the night of Friday, April 26, the Special Edition group filled the Centenario Coliseum with romanticism with their northern music, but they did not do it alone, other talents stood out on stage, such as Jr Torres, Ulises Cárdenas and Oscar Calin.

Many artists agree that part of the beauty of their work is getting to know different places; Music brought singer-songwriter Rigoberto Torres, better known as Jr Torres, to Torreón for the first time, accompanied by his second voice, Ulises Cárdenas. In the case of Oscar Calin it was his second visit, since in November of last year he visited La Laguna when he opened for Carin León.

OSCAR CALIN

Born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Oscar Osvaldo Valenzuela Ochoa has just turned 20 years old, he is better known as Oscar Calin, a nickname he coined since he was little and offered his songs to the Laguneros last night.

With several hours left until the concert, he confessed in an interview that he was very excited, happy and blessed to now conquer a different stage in Torreón, “music opens doors for us everywhere,” he declared. He also showed gratitude towards Special Edition and Jr Torres.

“I have been a fan of Edition for a while, I like their music, their chatter,” he said, so as soon as they invited him to be part of this event he accepted. Since the beginning of the year he has been generating new music. Va pal barrio con Double Blindaje premiered its official video on February 9, 2024. The video for his song Te dejo por la paz was released a month ago and he highlighted that it was quite an odyssey, since he is “terrible” at acting.

The meaning of this audiovisual content, in his words, is “a person who is in search of his mental health, because a girl left him in pieces.” Because in his city of origin “the race is a good dancer,” he also entered the cumbia genre, obtaining a positive response from his followers.

He recorded Caraluna with Contacto Norte and several with Tambora Ritmo Express, forming part of the EP Puro Hermosillo, En Vivo. This year he has dedicated himself more to his recordings, generating duets with Perdidos de Sinaloa, Grupo Códice, Jesús Ojeda, among other surprises.

JR TORRES

Jr Torres chose the scenarios rather than litigating. The Law graduate is a singer-songwriter from Culiacán, Sinaloa, who in addition to composing and performing, has collaborated with renowned singers of the Mexican regional genre and the corridos tumbados subgenre, such as Junior H, Óscar Maydon, Luis R. Conriquez, Special Edition , Marca Registrada, Cornelio Vega and many more. “I have always liked music, I have always had music, I just started composing, dedicating myself to that,” declared Torres, who is currently 30 years old.

After working three years in the government, he went to the United States to work and on his return, with some songs composed up his sleeve, he decided to record them for his own taste; However, by uploading them to YouTube, they stood out in the industry. In particular, there are two songs of his that have stood out: Un Suspiro (which has the position of being the most listened to with more than 180 million reproductions) and El Nini, Torres himself recognizes: “Our forte are corridos, We are going to release more romantic ones, but El Nini and Un Suspiro are the ones that have us here.”

Precisely, in El Nini he collaborates with Special Edition, whose friendship was not formed by music, but by being from the same neighborhood. Several talents grew up in this geographical area: “They call it the Mazatlán neighborhood in Culiacán, it is called Benito Juárez but people long ago baptized it as ‘La Mazatlán’, so that’s where we and I and a part of the Registered Brand are from. ” Jr declared in an interview. On the way is a song that he has with Ulysses, which in addition to being one of the most anticipated, is one of the most romantic.

“It’s great and the video is a novel,” said Jr, whose story stars a woman who prefers her friends instead of her partner. Another collaboration with Luis R. Conriquez is also approaching. “I feel very happy, the truth is, it gives me a personal pleasure to know that people like what I do, and that they know it and that they sing it, that fills me more than anything,” said Torres.

ULISES CÁRDENAS

From playing Christian music from a very young age, Ulises Cárdenas went on to play in several bands in his native Culiacán, Sinaloa. Three years ago, his life was directed towards fulfilling his greatest dreams, with the help of Jr Torres. From meeting each other at a party they became colleagues, since Ulises became his second voice and they have synergy in the creation of songs.

One of his recent corridos is titled Todo Ready y Bien. His repertoire of compositions also includes: What will happen?, which he performs with Manny Elenes. This creative side has allowed Cárdenas to compose songs for other celebrities, such as Grupo Marca Registrada, with Solo me dejaste.

In an interview, he said that working with Jr Torres has allowed him to travel to different places in Mexico and the USA. At 22 years old, he hopes that in the future his project will continue to transcend. With the help of Torres himself, he plans to do it “in a big way.” Enthusiastically he concluded that “it is worth dreaming, as people say, we have something very big in me.”
