News from Angola – The Art and Culture Foundation will pay homage on the 29th of this month, in Luanda, at 6pm, in the Wyza auditorium, to the writer José Carlos de Almeida, as part of the Noites de Poesia Project.
At issue is his contribution to Angolan Literature and Culture.
The event falls within the scope of the usual Poetry Nights, a project designed to unite writers of the old and new generations, giving the latter a stage to show their literary skills, and the old generation to receive criticism for the instructions that are required.
A group of poets from the new generation will recite texts by the writer and his authorship – Olívia Gomes, Deusa Dinis; Mavambo Universe; Lu Matamba; Luzineide Tomás; Africa Gomes; Domingos Hossi; Stammering Poet; Borges Segorb; Delmira Dinis. Musicians Fernando Jessy and Nelson Nguenohaita and the Theater Group, Jovens da Mulemba, will also liven up the night.
José Carlos de Almeida, was born in Bairro Rangel, currently the district of Rangel, belonging to the Municipality of Luanda. Graduated in Law, in Portugal, from the Autonomous University of Lisbon, “Luís de Camões”, benefiting from a SONANGOL scholarship.
The writer is a true music lover. Appreciator of classic Angolan music. He identifies with the song “O Que Eu Quero”, by André Mingas. On the other hand, he is enchanted by warm music, fado, blues and smooth jazz. Pedro Abrunhosa, Amália Rodrigues, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Maria Betânia and Ildo Lobo are his main musical idols in Lusophony. In addition to music, he enjoys reading and does not do without pens and notepads, as well as his laptop, which is a means of work, research and entertainment.
As a columnist, José Carlos de Almeida has written for the newspapers A República, Novo Jornal, and LUX magazine.
Noites de Poesia is a project by the Art and Culture Foundation that aims to value Angolan literature and its authors, as well as giving opportunities to the new generation of writers who need space to showcase their talents.
