JAKARTA – The Emergency Response High Level Conference (Summit) in the Dead Sea, Jordan, was held on June 11 2024. This meeting discussed handling the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip due to the never-ending Israel-Hamas war.

The official name of this summit is “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza Conference”.

This summit was attended by representatives of various countries. Indonesia, which took part, was represented by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto – who is also the president-elect.

This conference was held on the initiative of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

One of the main objectives of this summit is to call for a ceasefire and strengthen the international response to the humanitarian emergency situation in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

At the summit, Indonesia committed to sending health workers and establishing a field hospital in Gaza.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia was ready to treat up to 1,000 Palestinian children in hospitals in Indonesia as part of wider humanitarian efforts.

Apart from that, Indonesia also proposed sending UN peacekeeping troops to help maintain stability and security in the region.
