JAKARTA – Shania Junianatha, or Shanju as she is familiarly known, wrote a touching message after her husband, Jonatan Christie, was eliminated from the badminton qualifying round at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Jonatan had to stop his steps to win a medal in the group phase after losing to the Indian representative, Lakhsya Sen, in the last match of Group L. Playing at the Port de la Chapelle Arena, Wednesday (31/7/2024), afternoon WIB, Jonatan lost in two straight games with a final score of 18-21 and 12-21.

Through a tweet on her personal X account, Shanju wrote a touching message about her husband’s struggle. Shanju witnessed Jonatan Christie’s struggle and sacrifice in order to achieve maximum results at the four-yearly world sporting event.

“Even though the world doesn’t see it, I know, I really know your struggle. All your hard work, your tears, and your sacrifices, both physical and mental,” said Shania quoted from a tweet on her personal X account @shanju, Thursday (1/8/2024).

When the results were not as expected, Shanju was still proud of her husband. She also wrote a thank you note because the man who is familiarly called Jojo never stopped fighting. Shanju also thanked her future baby who also fought, willing to be left far away for a while by Jojo who fought in the Olympics.

“Even though the results are not perfect and not as you expected, I just want to say, thank you Papaaaa. Thank you also to Mama who also fought and baby J who fought together in my stomach,” she said.

Apart from Jonatan Christie, another Indonesian representative in the men’s singles sector, namely Anthony Ginting, also failed to go further in the 2024 Olympics. In fact, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Ginting managed to win a bronze medal.

With this result, the men’s singles presented a bad record at the Olympics. For the first time in the history of the four-yearly sporting event, there was no Indonesian team representative in the knockout round of the men’s singles.
