UNICEF Austria is calling for people to take part in the walk4water campaign. From now on, you can collect steps while running, hiking or walking. These help children get clean water.
Vienna (OTS) – Around 436 million children already live in areas with high water scarcity and poor drinking water supplies. Climate change is making the situation even worse.
Contaminated water makes people sick and endangers the lives of the youngest children in particular. Without access to clean water, and especially drinking water, the risk of contracting cholera and typhoid increases. Contaminated water is one of the main causes of death among children under five.
The problem not only affects the health of children, but also the education of girls and boys. Instead of being able to attend school, they often have to travel long, arduous distances to fetch water. As a result, they miss out on the opportunity to receive an education, which is a cornerstone of their future, carry heavy burdens and are exposed to additional dangers, such as abuse and attacks, on their way to fetch water.
That is why UNICEF Austria is calling for the “Walk4Water” campaign. It is intended to raise people’s awareness of the climate crisis and show its effects on the living conditions of children. It is also easy to help yourself.
Run, walk or hike for UNICEF. Every step counts. From June 1st until September 30th, 2024, committed people can contribute to water projects for children as part of the “walk4water” campaign.
Create your own fundraiser and make a statement for children in need
In a world where clean drinking water remains a luxury for many, you have the opportunity to make a big difference with your own fundraiser. With just a few steps, you can launch your personal campaign and do good while inspiring your community.
Step 1: Choose your route The first step to your successful fundraising campaign is choosing the route. It’s entirely up to you whether you decide to hike through picturesque landscapes or jog through the city to rack up your miles. You can set off alone or with a group, at a specific location or at the same time as participants all over the world. For all water enthusiasts, we recommend thematically appropriate hiking trails such as those in Styria, Vienna or Tyrol. These places not only offer breathtaking views, but also draw attention to the importance of water as a vital resource.
Step 2: Create your fundraiser Once you’ve decided on a route, it’s time to create your fundraiser. This is the moment to show your commitment and send a signal that you care about the well-being of children in need. Our platform makes it quick and easy to set up your personal campaign. Explain your goal, why you started this fundraiser, and invite friends, family and colleagues to support you. A clear, inspiring message will help you attract more people to your cause.
Step 3: Collect donations Now comes the exciting part: collecting donations. Set yourself a kilometer goal, for example 20 kilometers, and ask your supporters to donate a certain amount for each kilometer run – let’s say 3 euros per kilometer. In this way, your steps quickly add up to significant contributions. A donation of just 60 euros can provide 20,000 liters of drinking water. Every step you take counts and brings you a step closer to your goal of helping children in need.
Step 4: Share your success During and after your campaign, it is possible to document your progress and share it with your supporters. Regularly update your fundraiser page with the kilometers you have run and, for example, post a picture of yourself crossing the finish line or on top of a mountain. These moments are not only inspiring, but also show the real success of your efforts. Friends, family and even companies can follow your efforts and donate to your campaign directly on the platform.
Every fundraiser is a unique opportunity to take action and make a positive change. Whether you’re going on an epic hike or jogging around your neighborhood, every move counts. Together, we can make a big difference and make a lasting difference in the lives of children who suffer from water shortages. Start your own fundraiser today and be part of this important movement!
