John Kirby, spokesman for the United States National Security Council, said this Sunday that President Joe Biden seeks to avoid a broad war in the Middle East, in an interview with Fox News.

“Every decision, every discussion he’s had is designed to not allow this to turn into a broad regional war, and that’s where his head is still at,” Kirby noted.

In another interview this Sunday with ABC, Kirby pointed out that any response to the Iranian attack on Saturday night depends on Israeli forces and again emphasized that Biden does not want the United States to become further involved in the conflict.

Kirby added that the damage from Iran’s launching of drones and missiles into Israelin retaliation for an airstrike in Syria that killed a top Iranian general, “was extremely light” and that the defenses put in place showed that Israel can defend itself.

For his part, Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a call yesterday that the United States will not support any Israeli counterattack against Iran, according to local media.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hosein Amir Abdolahian, once again warned the United States this Sunday that in the event that its military bases in countries in the Middle East region be used to “defend and support” Israelwill “inevitably” attack those positions.
