Joe Biden loses support as presidential candidate; Adam Schiff calls for his withdrawal

Support for President Joe Biden’s bid to run for a second term despite being 81 years old appears to be waning.

On Wednesday, Congressman Adam Schiff, one of the highest-ranking Democrats, called on President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.

While he noted that Biden has been “one of the four most consistent presidents in American history,” the country is now at a “crossroads.”

“A second Donald Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have grave concerns about whether the president can defeat Trump in November,” he said in a statement first reported by the Los Angeles Times.

“I think it’s time for him to pass the torch.”

Democratic Party tried to officially vote for Biden as the presidential candidate

The Democratic National Committee announced that there will not be a virtual vote to officially nominate President Joe Biden before August.

According to information obtained by HuffPost, a conflict had arisen within the party after it was reported that they would try to force Biden’s nomination as the candidate, when the Convention will not be until mid-August.

Following President Joe Biden’s performance in the presidential debate with Donald Trump, several legislators and activists have questioned Biden’s candidacy due to his age and their belief that his ability as a leader has been declining.

Even after Democratic governors spoke to him, Biden reportedly said he has become more tired and might change his bedtime to 8 p.m.

Crisis due to age

The crisis surrounding the Democratic nomination, which has been brewing since before, with its lapses, gained weight after the debate on June 27.

In addition, polls from last March and a more recent one indicate that Democratic voters want Biden to withdraw from the race.

With the latest pointing to ⅔ or 70 percent of Democrats rooting for someone else as the presidential nominee.

Independents and Republicans also believe it is time for Biden to leave the political scene.
