British health authorities are drawing attention to a new symptom associated with the JN.1 variant and warning of the need to remain vigilant in the face of the pandemic.
New symptom linked to the JN.1 variant
While the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 remains active, the Sublineage JN.1also called “Juno“, now represents the majority of interpretable sequences in France hexagonal. Although cases linked to this variant do not appear to cause more serious complications than other forms of the virus, one particular symptom is attracting the attention of health authorities.
According to the British Health Agency (NHS), patients infected with the JN.1 variant often present with symptoms of diarrhea. Other common manifestations of COVID-19such as fever, respiratory symptoms, cough, headache, tiredness, loss of smell and taste, remain important indicators of infection.
Prevention and vaccination
Vulnerable people, particularly those over the age of 65 or with a medical history such as cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, chronic respiratory conditions or chronic kidney failure, are at increased risk of developing severe forms of the disease. Therefore caution is necessary and vaccination remains an essential measure.
The High Health Authority recalls that everyone, starting from the age of 5, including pregnant women starting from the first trimester, can be vaccinated against COVID-19. Additionally, children aged 6 months to 4 years, at risk of serious illness or living with an immunocompromised person, they can also be vaccinated against Covid-19.”
