On March 15, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the administrator of the UN Development Program, Akhim Steiner, who is visiting our country to participate in the XI Global Baku Forum.

It was reported that the agenda of cooperation within the framework of the UN Development Program, current perspectives, issues arising from the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as the regional situation in the post-conflict period, were discussed at the meeting.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the positive results of the long-term cooperation between the UN Development Program and Azerbaijan and noted the importance of continuing the existing partnership.
Talking about the preparations for COP29, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pointed out that our country is conducting substantive negotiations with various parties in the direction of the successful implementation of the COP29 presidency, and at the same time, necessary organizational measures have been taken.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, talking about the reconstruction and peace efforts made by our country in the post-conflict period, pointed out that the massive mining of our territories by Armenia, as well as the country’s refusal to provide information about the mined areas, threatens the lives and health of our citizens, as well as the ongoing restoration works. The necessity of mobilizing international efforts in mine clearance was emphasized.
Akhim Steiner noted that Azerbaijan’s achievements in the field of development are exemplary. It was stated that the UN Development Program attaches importance to the fight against the threat of mines, including the discussion of initiatives in this direction.
It was stated that the position and approach shown by Azerbaijan as the chairman of COP29, which is known as a country rich in hydrocarbon resources, is admirable, and a successful chairmanship activity in this direction was wished.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
