WILLEMSTAD – Jet Air’s 10am flight number 4J 0522 did not depart yesterday for Sint Maarten. Reason: One or more crew members had the flu. After checking in, travelers were initially told there was an hour delay, but it soon became clear that the flight would no longer depart.
An announcement about Hato by Swissport staff was that the pilot had the flu, but Jetair later reported that it was a purser.
Passengers had to wait hours to get their bags back and were angry at the lack of communication from Jetair. At the end of the afternoon one of the passengers was informed that the flight could operate today.
Because the company has a restricted flight schedule with just one plane, serving Sint Maarten, Bonaire and Aruba, it is unclear whether an extra flight will be operated or whether passengers from existing flights will be accommodated with empty seats.
Last night some passengers had heard nothing from Jet Air. The company turned off the phone after 5pm and no updated information could be found on the Jetair website; the status of the canceled flight was still listed as “on time”.
