Jeff Bezos enters the satellite Internet market with an alternative to Starlink

Jeff Bezos, founder of the aerospace company Blue Origin, announced the launch of a new global satellite project, TeraWave, which will become a direct competitor to the Starlink system, Liter.kz reports.

As reported on the website companieswe are talking about a high-speed enterprise-level space communication network capable of providing symmetric data transmission at speeds of up to 6 Tbit/s. The project is aimed at large companies, data centers and government agencies that require stable and fault-tolerant communications anywhere in the world.

The TeraWave network will consist of 5,408 satellites located simultaneously in low and medium Earth orbits. This architecture, according to the company, will provide both multi-gigabit user access and ultra-high-speed optical channels between global network nodes.

Blue Origin emphasizes that the project complements terrestrial fiber optic backbones and is especially in demand in regions where laying traditional infrastructure is economically or technically difficult. TeraWave user terminals are designed for rapid deployment and integration with existing networks.

The deployment of the satellite constellation is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027. The project is financed through private investment; Jeff Bezos, who founded Blue Origin in 2000 and has been consistently developing his own space ecosystem for many years, remains a key strategic investor.

Thus, a new powerful player is being formed in the global satellite Internet market, capable of competing with Starlink – no longer in the mass segment, but in the highly profitable corporate and government niche.
