Jay Idzes Chosen as AFC Star: Aligned with Son Heung-min

Jay Idzes selected to be one of the stars of the Asian Football Confederation ( AFC ) in the 2026 World Cup Qualification Asia Zone. AFC said the player of Indonesian national team descent managed to show good performances in the two matches between the Indonesian national team versus Vietnam.

Jay Idzes is a player who has just joined the Indonesian national team squad. The 23 year old player made his debut in the Indonesia versus Vietnam national team match in the 2026 World Cup Qualification Asia Zone.

In his debut match, Jay was able to lead the Indonesian National Team to beat Vietnam 1-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, last Thursday (21/3/2024). Then, Jay returned to bring the Garuda Squad to beat The Golden Stars 3-0 at My Dinh National Stadium, Hanoi, Tuesday (26/3/2024).

Interestingly, Jay also contributed one goal with a header in the second match. These two matches were enough to make the Venezia player selected as a star in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian Zone.

Thanks to his contribution, AFC included Jay in the list of star players which also includes Son Heung-min (South Korea), Eldor Shomurodov (Uzbekistan), and Joel Kojo (Kyrgyzstan). According to AFC, Jay succeeded in bringing European experience to Asia.

“Jay Idzes, who made his Indonesian debut with a clean sheet in the 1-0 win against Vietnam on Matchday Three, brings a wealth of experience playing for clubs in the Netherlands and Italy. The 23-year-old center back also didn’t have to wait long to score a goal his first international,” wrote AFC quoted from its official website, Saturday (30/3/2024).

Just for your information, Jay Idzes is a new player who was naturalized because he has Indonesian blood. Jay is known to have Indonesian ancestry from his grandfather who was born in Semarang, Central Java.
