The governor, Oswald Jaldoin the White Room of the Government House, formally presented Law No. 9782 September Bible Month. Representatives of different manifestations of the Christian faith in the province of Tucumán participated in the event.

Among the religious leaders present were: Monsignor Roberto Ferrari (Catholic church); Robert Garcia (Anglican Church), Maria Santana (Methodist Church), Miguel Berti (Salvation Army Church), Ruth Pereyra (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), Father Juan Manuel Alurralde (Antiochian Orthodox Church), Father Joshua Espinosa (Syrian Orthodox Church), pastor Ivan Rosales (Seventh-day Adventist Church), pastor Javier Armendia (Southern Pastors Council), pastor Abel Torres (Church of the Free Brethren), pastor Sergio Romero and sister Mariana Zossipresident of the Argentine Biblical Association.

Jaldo was accompanied by officials from the provincial Cabinet, including the ministers Regino Amado (Interior), Luis Medina Ruiz (Health), Frederick Masso (Social Development), Gilda Pedicone de Valls (State Attorney), Raul Albarracin (Secretary of Government), Roxana Diaz (Secretary of Worship and Links with Civil Society Organizations) and the legislator, Maia Martínez.

Amado stated that we have been working on this law since 2022. In July, the governor promulgated it, declaring September the Month of the Bible.

“This is an opportunity to thank them for the work they do on a religious, spiritual, but also social level, because there are many schools that have cafeterias, where they house many boys and girls. By working together with the State, we can also advance education in these sectors,” he said.

“The Governor has made many gestures, more than words, with the churches that preach and spread the word of God here in our province. Declaring by resolution that he -when he was Vice Governor of Tucumán- was pro-life, defending life and -now as head of the Executive Branch- also elevating the Secretariat of Worship, led by Roxana Díaz, from the rank of undersecretary to Secretary of State. It is within the Ministry of Government and Justice that I lead, so we are going to continue working with all these institutions because that is what the Governor asks of us to try to reach as many people as possible who need us,” he analyzed.

Díaz welcomed the recent enactment of a law declaring September as Bible Month, highlighting its relevance for the Christian community in Tucumán.

“Today is a very important day for the entire Christian community in our province because the law declaring the month of September as the month of the Bible was passed,” said Díaz.

He also said that “almost 80% of the community practices a Christian faith” and that “the Bible is part of the life and culture, not only of the people of Tucumán, but of all Argentines.” This law, said Díaz, is a “fundamental achievement” that has the support of the governor, highlighting the importance of “support so that these laws truly become effective.”

The secretary also highlighted the pioneering role of Tucumán in the area of freedom of religion, stating that “today Tucumán, once again, is a pioneer in these laws on religion and we are an example of freedom of religion in our province.”

The law has a special significance, as September has been chosen because of its relationship with two important historical events in the history of Bible translations: “For Catholics, the Bible, the Latin Vulgate, and for Protestants and Evangelicals, the Bear Bible,” said the Secretary of Worship.

“This event is meant to give prominence to this sacred book that is so important for many faiths, most of them here in the province of Tucumán,” said Monsignor Roberto Ferrari at the end of the event.

He added: “We are glad that this book of the Bible is being given such importance, at different levels, because it is also being invited to be kept in mind in schools, in different celebrations, commemorations.”

For Father Juan Manuel Alurralde of the Orthodox Church of Antioch, this represents an important initiative: “As the foundations of the law explain, more than 70 or 80% of the population in Argentina and in our province declare themselves Christian. So this is a law that reaches all those communities of the book because we believe in the Holy Scriptures not only as a book of sacred inspiration, but as a book that morally inspires humanity in terms of values of faith, hope, solidarity, tolerance, compassion and mercy.”

Finally, Pastor Ruth Jaime of the Shalom Adonai ministry said: “We rely heavily on the Word of God and it is nice to know that today the Bible is a law, which is where we put the scourge of drugs, children on the street, where in a Bible verse, we can bring the Word of God.”

“Today we became a very big team, seeing pastors who support us, not only as evangelical Christians, but also as Catholics and Muslims. We all believe in one God. Today we are united and being in this place all together makes me very happy,” he concluded.
