Jaime Munguia Imagines the KO That Changed His Life Against Canelo

Jaime Munguia imagining the knockout that changed his life while fighting Saul Canelo Alvarez on May 4. Jaime Munguia grew up as a boxer who admired Saul Canelo Alvarez.

And, now he wants to take the title from his compatriot to become the new face of the world of boxing for fans in Mexico. Undefeated, record-setting Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) will take on undisputed super middleweight world champion Saul Canelo Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) on May 4 at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, United States.

The 27-year-old Munguia is grateful to be able to fight against a superstar who is six years older than him. “I feel great. I’m very happy to get this opportunity. It’s the perfect opportunity to show the world who I really am,” Munguia told BoxingScene.

“I’m very happy to be part of this fight and to be part of this event. I don’t see this as Canelo and I dividing or separating Mexico. I think we are bringing people together. They will enjoy a great fight… Of course, I always watch his fights, and now I myself am ready for this fight.”

Saul Canelo Alvarez will face a fellow Mexican boxer for the first time since defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2017. Alvarez has stated that he is open to getting involved in a fight with the strikingly oriented Munguia. “Let’s see what happens. A lot of things can happen in the ring. It will be an incredible fight,” Munguia said of the potential for war.

Freddie Roach trained Munguia’s enthusiasm for attack and his shortcomings in defense. “We’ve been working on little things. Some things that are specific to Canelo, some things that are more general. We’ve been in the kitchen working on a lot of things.”
