J Balvin makes his acting debut alongside Sean Astin in a drama based on real events

The renowned Colombian singer J Balvin will take his first steps in the cine by participating in “Little Lorraine,” a film directed by Andy Hines and starring Sean Astin, known for his role in “The Lord of the Rings.”

J Balvinone of the most influential exponents of Latin music worldwide, is preparing to surprise his fans with a new challenge in his career: his debut as an actor. The Colombian artist will share the screen with renowned actor Sean Astin, remembered for his role in the saga “The Lord of the Rings,” and with Stephen Amell, famous for his performance in the series “Arrow.” The feature film, titled “Little Lorraine,” will be directed by Andy Hines and is based on a true story that occurred in the 1980s.

The film, which will be shot in the regions of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and Ontario, Canada, tells the story of a small coastal town on the North Atlantic with just 60 inhabitants. This place becomes the epicentre of an international cocaine smuggling operation, where the drug was distributed in coffins through a network of funeral homes. The dark and captivating plot promises to be a drama full of tension and emotion.

Although this is J Balvin’s first acting role, the singer already has experience in the film industry, having contributed to the soundtracks of films such as “Fast & Furious 7” and “8,” “Spy Game,” and “Bad Boys for Life.” His foray into film is not surprising, considering his history of collaborations with Andy Hines, who has directed several of his music videos, including “Redefining Mainstream (Artist Spotlight Story)” in 2018 and “Ahora” in 2019. Hines, in addition to directing “Little Lorraine,” is also the author of the script.

The cast of “Little Lorraine” includes notable names such as Stephen McHattie, Auden Thornton, Matt Walsh, Rhys Darby, Josh Close, Steve Lund and Sugar Lyn Beard, who join Balvin and Astin to bring this intriguing story to life. The film is scheduled for release in 2025, marking the beginning of a new stage in the Colombian’s career, as he seeks to expand his talent beyond music.
