Izmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU Provides Clean Drinking Water to the People of Izmir

(İZMİR) – Izmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU General Directorate provides services with 67 drinking water treatment facilities to deliver healthy drinking water to the people of Izmir. İZSU provides drinkable water with peace of mind by purifying an average of 700 thousand cubic meters of water per day to metropolitan districts and 60 thousand cubic meters to surrounding districts.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU General Directorate, which is working hard to bring new water resources to Izmir, makes it easier for the city to reach healthy drinking water with the treatment facilities it has commissioned. Providing service with 67 drinking water treatment plants, the institution treats and delivers an average of 700 thousand cubic meters of water per day to metropolitan districts and 60 thousand cubic meters of water to surrounding districts.

Bornova and Buca’s drinking water comes from Kavaklıdere

Kavaklıdere Drinking Water Treatment Plant, established on an area of ​​150 thousand square meters, is the second largest drinking water treatment plant in Izmir after the treatment plant in Görece, which purifies the water of Tahtalı Dam; administrative building with ventilation unit, flow measurement and maneuver room, pre-ozonation unit, fast mixing, slow mixing, clarifier units, fast sand filter pools, engine room, chemical building, chlorination unit, sludge dewatering building, chlorine contact tank and purified water tank. It consists of facility automation (SCADA) room and laboratory units. The facility, which has a capacity of 360 thousand cubic meters per day, receives water from Gördes Dam, located approximately 100 kilometers away. Currently, an average of 90 thousand cubic meters of water is purified per day to meet needs. Thus, clean drinking water is provided to Bornova and Buca. In addition, clean drinking water is provided to other metropolitan districts when necessary, through maneuvers carried out in the city network.

Meticulous work for clean drinking water

İZSU Water Purification Department Northern Water Purification Branch Manager Serhat Koçaker said that they are working meticulously to purify water coming from a very long distance at Kavaklıdere Drinking Water Purification Facility. Koçaker said, “Water comes from a distance of 100 kilometers. We control the raw water with online devices and in our laboratory. The water taken to the ventilation unit passes to the clarifier units from there. With the addition of chemicals, the suspended solids in the water are ensured to settle. Then the water passes to the filter section. In rapid sand filters, this process “After the process is completed, the water comes to the filtered water tank and then to the final chlorination units. The water taken into the clean water tank is ready for distribution to the network.”

“You can safely drink water from taps”

Stating that the work they do is extremely important and that they work with great responsibility, Koçaker said, “Our citizens can drink the water flowing from their taps with peace of mind. We keep the water under control 24 hours a day and work 24 hours a day. We offer clean drinking water, which is a basic need, to our people with great effort.” . Calling for the economical use of water, Koçaker said, “Factors such as the global climate crisis and irregular rainfall regime have a negative impact on water resources. The economical use of water against the threat of dehydration that may occur in the long term is of great importance for our entire society.”
