IX Beauchef Book Fair “Art and Science”

IX Beauchef Book Fair

  • Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Chile, Beauchef 850, Santiago.
  • October 2-5 – 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Free.

Organized by the Central Library and the External Relations Department of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Chile, the 9th edition of the Beauchef Book Fair will open its doors on Wednesday, October 2 at 1:30 p.m. to welcome more than 30 publishers – among which Metales Pesados, Contrapunto and Fondo de Cultura Económica stand out – and to begin a packed schedule of activities related to this year’s theme: art and science.

“Recognizing art and science as a fundamental part of human knowledge is crucial to understanding the world around us. The link between the two spheres is close; it is enough to observe the development of artistic techniques that involve elements of engineering or architecture, or to delve a little into the extensive studies of art history that follow a rather scientific perspective. At this point, it is impossible to ignore the fact that both fields come from the same place: reflection and curiosity, observation and exploration, thinking and doing,” he explains. Leonardo Falconcultural manager of the FCFM Library.

Workshops on botanical cyanotype, silkscreen printing, pinhole photography and development are some of the activities that will be offered free of charge with prior registration. On the other hand, a performance by the visual artist DiabloRojo and an intervention of the work “El Tour del Siglo” will take over the space to transform it through music, stories, drawing and movement.

The music of Pascuala Ilabaca and Fauna will be in charge of the opening of the fair, while a unique show by the Beauchef Orchestra and Camila Moreno will close the important event that celebrates reading by proposing new and inclusive spaces to learn about it and inhabit it.

The Beauchef Book Fair: Art and Science seeks to contribute to the promotion of the link between both fields through playful and participatory spaces, open to the entire community. This edition will run until Saturday, October 5, from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and will be held at Beauchef 850, Santiago. Admission is free.

This initiative is a project funded by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage, and has the collaboration of Explora and NIC Chile.
