Ivato: 7,155 kilos of precious stones seized by Customs

Malagasy Customs are stepping up their searches. Just last week, it dismantled an attempted illicit export of 56 kg of precious stones by a Sri Lankan national with the complicity of four Malagasy traffickers. Yesterday, customs at Ivato International Airport got their hands on another trafficking incident, this time by Chinese nationals. During the processing of flight ET 852 to Addis Ababa, customs officers noted an offense of exporting prohibited goods. The two Chinese nationals involved in this case concealed various rough stones and gemstones, fine stones and cut stones with a total weight of 7,155 kilos in food product packaging. And that’s not all since these Chinese traffickers whose final destination is Shanghai, China, concealed other prohibited goods in their hold luggage, including 9.5 kilos of katrafay and 3 crocodile skin bags without invoices. . In any case, despite the ingenious operating methods used by these traffickers, the efforts made by Customs are yielding positive results. In this case, the precious stones were hidden in bags of peanuts
