IV creates an offer for more diversity on Austria’s supervisory boards – support for future female supervisory board members with an experienced network when jumping into new tasks
Vienna (OTS) – In order to increase the proportion of women on supervisory boards and thus fully exploit the potential for Austrian companies, the IV sparring program “Network Supervisory Board” was launched. “There are women who have the necessary expertise for the supervisory board and are prepared to take on responsibility,” says program initiator and IV Vice President Sabine Herlitschka. “With our sparring program, we make these women visible and also equip them with the necessary network,” continues Herlitschka. The program is particularly practical and is already achieving initial success. In the program, experienced supervisory board members form a tandem with potential supervisory board members and support them in personal meetings as they embark on their future tasks. The program is currently in its third round and its success proves it right: since it began around two years ago, participants have already accepted six supervisory board mandates and further discussions are ongoing.
The third round started in April 2024 with a total of 22 tandem pairs and will run until February 2025. The idea comes from IV Vice President Sabine Herlitschka, who is also the patron of the program. You can find all graduates of the sparring program via the database:
Exchange at eye level
The “Network Supervisory Board” does not want to be misunderstood as a training program. The candidates already have everything they need for their future tasks. The program uses elements from mentoring and combines them with selected networking and reflection formats such as workshops. The mentoring focuses on the 1:1 relationship between the two partners and promotes the development of a trusting, mutual exchange. The candidates benefit holistically from the know-how and the entire wealth of experience of the experienced supervisory board members.
The mentors also benefit from the process and the interaction with the younger generation. Cross-generational cooperation represents an advantage for the organizations involved when it comes to demographic change and understanding the changes to be expected. Both sides are building a sustainable network with managers and future managers.
