Italians await appointment of new Prime Minister

Almost three months After the elections in Italy, thes brokens, anti-system 5 Star Movement (M5S) and the League (far right), must present today, President Sergio Mattarella was given the name to occupy the position of Prime Minister.

The meeting, without a scheduled time, should take place in the afternoon. In recent days, the young leaders of the two parties, Luigi Di Maio (M5S), 31, and Matteo Salvini (League), 45, concluded an agreement, approved by 90% of their bases, a “government contract” that intends to leave austerity behind and fight against Brussels’ “guidelines”.

The two dreamed of heading Italy’s first anti-system government, but the clash of egos and the results of the legislative elections forced them to choose a third person as head of government.

According to the Italian press, Di Maio and Salvini will occupy important positions: the Ministry of the Interior for Salvini and the Ministry of Economic Development, which includes the Labor portfolio, for Di Maio.

“We have reached an agreement on the head and government ministers and we hope that no one will present a veto to a choice that represents the will of the majority of Italians,” Salvini announced on Sunday.

The press is betting on the name of Giuseppe Conte, 54 years old, as prime minister, a jurist and law academic in Florence and Rome, specialist in administrative justice.

Despite being practically unknown to the population, Conte has a long track record at prestigious foreign universities, such as Yale, Cambridge and Sorbonne.

Another name mentioned is that of Andrea Roventini, 41 years old, an economist who is a professor at the University of Pisa.
