O italian stylist, Antonio Marras, invited nthe last Friday, During Milan Fashion Week, the public, to take an imaginary trip on an ocean liner with immigrants from yesterday and today.
The story, told in a small leaflet distributed to spectators, with actors and dancers and a soundtrack of piano notes, tells the life of John Marras, an ancestor of the designer, who is not known if he really existed. Marras, who lives on the island of Sardinia, wanted to pay tribute to all immigrants, those who left for the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, many of them Italians, as well as those arriving in Europe today.
Some models paraded wearing only underwear, remembering the men who left everything to cross the sea and achieve their dream of a better life.
“In the first class there were elegant businessmen and nobles covered in jewels, in the second class there were merchants and women in search of the charming prince and in the third class there was pain and anguish”, says the designer.
The new autumn/winter collection of the Cavalli brand, by English designer Paul Surridge, had a personal touch from its founder, Roberto Cavalli. The sexy and bohemian luxury, characteristic of the brand, was interpreted by the new creative director, who confesses to being inspired only by the founder’s archives and drawings.
