ITAIPU faces a technological modernization plan of the monumental lighting system of the hydroelectric power plant. Currently, the call for the binational public tender for equipment supply is underway.
The project was presented by Ronald Augusto Cáceres, of the Electromechanical Engineering Division, during the twentieth meeting of the Ibero -American Region of Cigre (XX ERIAC), held in Ciudad del Este.
As explained by the technical professional, within the framework of the largest event in the electricity sector in the region, the dam lighting system with options that allow to modify in the future the artistic project with specialists of the branch would be totally modernized.
“It is a very big challenge to modernize such a complex system and that is well known, so it was quite careful and many people were included for the elaboration of all the technical specifications of the project. A multidisciplinary working group of engineering, maintenance, operation, tourism and administrative areas was created, to find the best possible option,” he said.
The objective of the project is to preserve the aesthetic legacy of the appeal that is part of the options menu offered by the Itaipu tourist complex. Initially, this tender seeks to optimize energy efficiency, which foresees a reduction in energy consumption of more than 50 % and thus also reduce the environmental impact, Cáceres said.
“When we talk about energy efficiency, we also refer to carbon reduction emitted with the efficiency achieved. We also seek to reduce the high demands of hours/man in the maintenance of the system operation; we also want to integrate a bidirectional control system with flexible programming that allows you to create shocking shows,” he said.
Infrastructure to install
Currently, the monumental lighting system of the dam has 829 metallic steam luminaries and sodium vapor, which will be replaced by the Phillips Reachelite PowerCore LED RGBW model of 100 W, 200 W and 300 W, 8 220 V distribution panels and the replacement of 8 three -phase pedestal type transformers of 13,800/220 V.
With these equipment a power reduction of 150 kVA (50 Hz and 60 Hz) will be achieved. A video table, sound table and the elaboration of 3 new lighting shows in charge of a Light Designer are also included.
It is a complete system of supervision and bidirectional control of the luminaires, with the executive project, assembly, essays and commissioning, respectively, the ITAIPU explained.
