The European Union has been asked to revive the Weimar triangle, an unofficial combination of Berlin, Paris and Warsaw, to reduce US involvement in European security.
Publika.az This new configuration of the EU defense system was noted by Artin DerSimonian, a junior fellow in the Quincy Institute for Responsible Government’s Eurasia Program, in a column for Politico.
According to the author, Germany and France should be more open to the perspectives of their eastern allies. He notes that “the time has come to activate” the Weimar Triangle, which was created more than 30 years ago.
“Because the participation of Poland, where pro-American and pro-NATO views are strong, can help reduce Washington’s fears about an independent European project,” the material emphasized.
It should be recalled that some time ago, DerSimonian proposed a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine. For this, it is argued, the EU countries should follow a containment strategy without provoking Russia unduly, as this would reduce the confrontational mood of the political elites of Poland and the Baltic states.
