Shafaq News/ Fears are growing over the spread of the new Coronavirus mutant (1.JN) in Iraq after cases of infection were recorded in several countries in the region, amid calls for the need to follow health instructions to prevent the new mutant .
The Iraqi Ministry of Health had strengthened preventive measures with the outbreak of the new Corona variant in several countries, including wearing masks in crowded areas and maintaining a safe distance from others.
A document from the Ministry of Health, sent to Shafaq News Agency, reveals that in light of the announcement by the World Health Organization of the new Coronavirus mutant (1.JN) and the registration of cases of infection with the new mutant in a number of countries in the region, we include the following recommendations below:
1 – Follow Covid-19 tests using PCR technology in all health departments and follow genetic developments in the Central Public Health Laboratory.
2 – Obligation of medical-health personnel working in health institutions to wear masks and other personal protective equipment when dealing with confirmed or suspected cases of Covid-19.
3- Health awareness on taking the necessary measures to prevent infection by wearing masks in crowded, closed or poorly ventilated areas, maintaining a safe distance from others as much as possible, vaccination against Covid-19 and influenza, especially high-risk groups risk of serious infection and cover your mouth and nose When coughing and sneezing, wash your hands regularly.
Parliamentary hospitality to follow instructions
The Parliamentary Committee on Health intends to host the Department of Public Health in the Ministry of Health to follow up on the instructions sent to the departments, according to committee member Bassem Al-Gharabi, who confirms that “the protocols and instructions are good, but Most governorate departments do not have full commitment and are not sensitive to the evolution of the disease.”
Al-Gharabi added to Shafaq News Agency: “Therefore, at the time of hosting, we will be asked to train field teams from the Ministry of Health to visit health institutions, especially public health departments, to activate the necessary instructions, in light of the spread of the new mutant in countries around the world.
The representative believes that “Iraq is in a dangerous zone, especially because health institutions and infrastructure are dilapidated, accompanied by a weakness of health culture and awareness of the mutant in areas far from the centers, and sometimes there is l illusion between a severe flu and the new mutant.
«The spread is not at frightening levels – he confirms – and no epidemic has yet been recorded, but a few single cases, and if it spreads and the situation requires a closure, it will be closed, but for now the road must not rise». fears, because the closure has economic repercussions, and the increase in infections and control depends on this.”
He continues: “Therefore, these issues will be highlighted in reception, especially with the spread of other diseases, including the measles epidemic among school children, which also raises the alarm.”
Corona infections are increasing around the world
On December 23, the World Health Organization announced that the number of Covid-19 (Corona) infections worldwide had increased by 52% in 28 days compared to the previous 28 days.
The World Health Organization said in a report that 850,000 new cases of infection were reported in the same period.
He added in his report: “Globally, the number of new cases increased by 52% during the 28-day period from November 20 to December 17.
Previously, the organization announced that the new Corona virus has adapted to humans, but continues to mutate.
Symptoms and prevention
For his part, family medicine consultant Dr. Ali Abu Tahin says: “The Corona virus changes from time to time and mutations occur in it, and the latest mutation, called (1.JN), derived from mutant Omicron, have begun to spread, recording over 60 percent of infections.” In countries around the world, including Iraq.
Abu Tahin emphasizes during his speech to Shafaq news agency: “The new variant is difficult to distinguish from regular flu, as it shares previous symptoms of Corona, including headache, pain, runny nose, cough, burning to the pharynx and other symptoms, and not all of them necessarily appear on the patient, and the diagnosis is made by swab and PCR examination to determine Corona infection or another disease.
As regards prevention methods, explains the doctor, “the prevention methods are the same as those used in the past against Corona, including general hygiene, hand washing, the use of masks, social distancing, avoiding crowded places, improving immunity and healthy food”.
Abu Tahin reassures: “The new mutant is not very lethal, but rather is highly contagious, and we do not see a noticeable increase in hospitalizations, but only injuries, most of which are mild, but caution and caution are needed.”
As for the people most vulnerable to serious infections, the doctor explains that they are “the elderly who have chronic diseases and patients with asthma and allergies, and the vaccine can reduce the severity of the infection, both the Corona vaccine itself and the flu vaccine , which improves and strengthens the body’s immunity.”
Concluding his speech, Abu Tahin observes: “The new mutant does not need severe treatment, but only rest, a painkiller, a fever reducer and other simple things that are sufficient for the treatment, and all of them are available. .”
An appeal to wear masks and get vaccinated
On January 5, the director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, urged people to wear masks and get vaccinated against the coronavirus (Covid-19), after recording an increase in cases of infection in many countries for weeks.
“The number of respiratory illnesses caused by Covid-19, influenza and other pathogens has been increasing in many countries for several weeks and is expected to continue beyond the recent holidays,” Tedros wrote on his social media page.
He urged everyone to get tested for coronavirus (Covid-19) and seek medical care when necessary.
The head of the World Health Organization added: “Continue to use masks, ventilation and distancing to reduce infections.”
It also called on countries to ensure access to tests and vaccines and to maintain continuous sequencing of COVID-19 to monitor the evolution of mutations.
