Passengers on the Sofia – Vratsa – Vidin and Sofia – Vratsa – Lom trains will now be able to buy a ticket from the train using a PDA device provided by the conductors, BDZ announced on Friday. Experimental electronic ticketing has been running since the beginning of the week on a trial basis.
As part of the tests, all irregularities related to the mobile connection and other errors that occurred during the operation of the devices will be removed. After optimizing the inaccuracies, the number of trains and routes on which this service will be offered will be gradually increased with more functionalities and the possibility of offering more commercial offers. Thus, BDZ customers will be able to purchase train tickets for travel and transfers at hub stations throughout the country, the railways state.
Electronic train ticketing via PDA devices greatly simplifies the process for the train staff, as the ticket is automatically printed with just the push of a few buttons from the device’s menu, and there is no longer a need to fill in forms by hand, which is time-consuming and associated with a number of inconveniences in the work of conductors.
The PDA devices are centrally connected to the ticketing system, which automatically improves accountability by providing real-time data directly into the system for the sales made and thus directly reported to the treasury.
The introduction of electronic train ticketing via PDA devices is part of the measures to improve and upgrade the functionalities of the ticketing system and expand the integrated automated system, which will facilitate customers in purchasing tickets by providing more options and improve accountability in the company , state the state company.
