IT Expert: VPN Increases Crime Rates

Information Technology Expert Hakan Topuzoğlu said that people who use VPNs share their personal information with the VPN server they use, and added, “VPNs increase crime rates.”

Describing Virtual Private Network (VPN) as teleporting from one place to another, Informatics Specialist Hakan Topuzoğlu said that under normal circumstances, the person is in Kayseri, but when he uses VPN, his address appears in another country because he accesses the internet through another server. Expressing that this has some benefits and risks, Topuzoğlu said, “If we talk about its benefits; you ensure your privacy. You use banned sites at that moment. These seem like benefits, but in terms of risks, since you do all your transactions through a server you do not know when you use VPN, you naturally share your information with that server. At the same time, since your IP address changes, it emerges as an element that can make things harder for cybercrimes. Because your IP address also changes and it becomes difficult to track. We are forced to use VPN. There were times when sites like Wikipedia were banned before. We are forced to use it, but the computer you use may be different. We can take precautions such as doing more critical work on this computer. If you are doing transactions on your phone or computer with VPN open from morning to night, you are doing all your transactions from there. This invites all risks. Therefore, if we absolutely have to use it, using a different device for this purpose may be a separate solution,” he said.
