Israelis killed in shooting on Jordanian border

Several Israelis were killed in a shooting at the Allenby Bridge checkpoint between Jordan and the West Bank, Liter.kz reports, citing Israel Defense Forces.

The IDF said that on Sunday, September 8, a gunman opened fire on Israeli border guards. The attacker was shot dead by Israeli security forces.

“The terrorist drove up in a truck from the Jordanian side, got out and started shooting at Israeli security forces,” the report said.

Three checkpoint workers died at the scene. Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency services confirmed the deaths of the men, who were in their 50s. Initially, two were reported injured, but three were later confirmed dead.

The incident occurred at the checkpoint’s cargo terminal, through which transport with goods passes. The Israel Defense Forces is treating the incident as a terrorist act. The truck is suspected of possibly containing explosives, and sappers have been dispatched to the scene.

Jordan’s Interior Ministry said an investigation had been launched and the Allenby Bridge crossing had been temporarily closed.
