Israeli attack in Gaza, death of 36 members of the same family

The Tabatibi family, displaced by Israeli bombardment, gathered for a meal in central Gaza on the first Friday night of Ramadan, but the scene soon turned into bloodshed.

Survivors told the French news agency AFP on Saturday that the airstrike hit the building where they were staying. The women were making sahri. 36 members of the same family lost their lives in the attack.

19-year-old Mohammad Al-Tabatibi, whose left hand was injured in the attack, told Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital in Deir al-Balah, crying: ‘This is my mother, this is my father, this is my aunt, and this is my brother.

‘They bombed the house while we were there. My mother and aunt were making suhri. They were all martyred.’

While they were talking, the bodies were scattered in the hospital yard. Later, they were placed on a truck and taken to the cemetery.

The first Friday of Ramadan was peaceful despite fears of tension at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem, but it was a different story in Gaza.

The Hamas government press office reported late last night that the attack in Nusirat was one of 60 “deadly airstrikes” from Gaza City in the north to Rafah in the south.

“It was a bloody night,” said Salama Maruf of the official Hamas-run media office. A very bloody night.’

Yusuf Tabatibi, who returned to the central Gaza city of Nasirat, said 36 members of his family were killed in the attack. This number may increase.
