Israel – The extremist Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, announced yesterday, Wednesday, the transfer of Marwan Barghouti, a member of the Central Committee of the Fatah movement, from Ofer military prison to solitary confinement in another prison, on the grounds that there is information about a planned intifada in the West Bank.
In a post on “X”, Ben Gvir, leader of the “Jewish Power” party, said: “I am happy that the Israeli Prison Service is implementing my very clear policy towards terrorists in prisons,” as he put it.
He explained that the Prison Service: “Yesterday (Wednesday) it transferred the chief killer, Marwan Barghouti, from Ofer Prison (established on the lands of the town of Beitunia, west of the city of Ramallah in the central West Bank), to isolation (his location was not specified),” as he described it.
Ben Gvir indicated that this came “following information about a planned uprising.”
The extremist Israeli minister concluded his post by saying: “The days when terrorists ran prisons are over,” he said.
For its part, the private Israeli Channel 13 said, on Wednesday evening: “Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti was transferred from Ofer Prison to isolation in another prison for fear of escalation, after the Prison Service received information indicating that he is working to incite and ignite a third intifada in the West Bank.” Western.
As of 20:55 (UTG), Palestinian prisoner institutions had not issued a comment on the matter.
Israel arrested Barghouti in 2002, and sentenced him to life imprisonment, on charges of “responsibility for operations carried out by armed groups affiliated with the Fatah movement, which led to the death and injury of Israelis.”
