Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Israel must be punished for the attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Syria. He made this comment on Wednesday (April 10). British news agency Reuters reported this news.
On April 1, seven Iranian military advisers were killed in a suspected Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, Syria. This incident has increased Israel’s tension with its regional rival, Iran.
In a speech on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, Khamenei said that when they attacked the consulate, it was like attacking the soil of our country. Misrulers have made mistakes and must and will be punished.
In response to Khamenei’s statement, Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday, “If Iran attacks Israel from its own soil, we will strike back at Iran.”
Pro-Iranian groups have been embroiled in conflict with Israel across the Middle East since the October 7 attack by Hamas in southern Israel.
The number of Palestinians killed in the six-month Israeli offensive in Gaza in response to Hamas attacks has exceeded 33,000, according to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry. And according to Israeli statistics, about 1,200 people were killed and 250 were taken hostage in the October 7 attack by Hamas.
The pro-Iranian Hezbollah group in Lebanon has been in a near-daily firefight with Israel. Iraqi groups have attacked US troops in Syria and Iraq. Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been attacking commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
