Consul General of Russia posted in Pakistan Andrey V. Fedorov said that oppression is being done by Israel in Gaza. Israel is killing innocent children, one day Israel will have to answer for this cruelty.
Speaking to Independent Urdu in Karachi on Monday, he said that ‘what is happening in Gaza is a crime. No country, even if it has been attacked by terrorists, can be allowed to burn down entire villages, killing all citizens. Even if a village has been stolen, it is still a crime to destroy the whole village.’
Relations between Pakistan and Russia have grown at various levels in recent years. Last month, Russia’s Consul General Fedorov confirmed that he expected to finalize a deal with Pakistan this summer to set up a new steel mill in Karachi.
The Soviet Union built the Pakistan Steel Mill in Karachi in the 1970s, the country’s largest state-owned industrial enterprise. The steel mill, once a symbol of national self-sufficiency, has been closed since 2015, due to years of mismanagement, political interference and a financial crisis.
Russian Consul General Andrey V. Fedorov said in a special conversation with Independent Urdu after attending an event at the Karachi Press Club that ‘We want relations with Pakistan that help bring peace and stability to the region. Pakistan is an important country in this region, and many things depend on Pakistan. If we move forward together, cooperating with each other, it is possible to solve many of the major problems facing the region.’
Last year Pakistan tried to buy oil from Russia which was not successful, when asked if it was due to international pressure? So the Consul General said that he did not know the details of the matter, so he could not comment on it.
Talking about the current situation of the new steel plant project between Pakistan and Russia, he said that ‘Pakistan is working on important points related to steel mills. The project is currently under negotiation and will be made public as soon as there is any final progress.
Regarding Russia’s position regarding the changing situation in Afghanistan and the expected cooperation from Pakistan, the Consul General said that ‘Taliban in Afghanistan is a reality. We want a relationship with Pakistan that will help bring peace and stability to the region. Pakistan is an important country in this region, and many things depend on Pakistan. If we move forward together, cooperating with each other, it is possible to solve many of the major problems facing the region.’
Asked how Russia views Pakistan’s growing ties and investments with America, he said, “We are not against cooperation with any country.” Pakistan is a sovereign country and has full right to establish relations with any country it wants. We do not impose our way of life on anyone like the West. There is good cooperation between us and Pakistan, and we are not against anyone.’
