MADRID (EUROPA PRESS).- The Israeli Army launched a new operation against the Tal al Haua neighborhood in Gaza City, and said that the incursion includes operations inside a complex of the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in which members of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) are allegedly operating.
He explained on his social media account X that the “anti-terrorist” operation was launched under the command of the 99th Division and added that “weapons” and “cells” were found in the UNRWA complex, before stating that he warned civilians present in the area to evacuate the neighborhood before launching the incursion.
“The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have previously operated in the area, killing and arresting many Hamas terrorists and destroying an important underground route that passed beneath the compound,” he stressed.
“The IDF will continue to act in line with international law against the terrorist organizations Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which systematically operate and carry out terrorist activities from civilian infrastructure, including UNRWA compounds, used to plan and execute terrorist activities against the State of Israel,” he stressed.
He also claimed to have killed “more than 30 terrorists” in the offensive against the city of Rafah, located in the south of the Gaza Strip, on the border with Egypt, where he also located “tunnels” and seized various weapons.
In addition, it killed “dozens of terrorists” in a series of operations and attacks in the Shujaia neighborhood, also located in Gaza City, in the north of the Strip, while confirming bombings against “many targets” throughout the enclave.
The Israeli army later claimed to have destroyed a Hamas “compound” and “headquarters” in a school and a clinic in the same neighbourhood, adding that “terrorists from the Shujaia Battalion” had holed up in the facilities. “They hid there and carried out terrorist acts,” it said.
“During searches in the compound, soldiers from the Rotem Battalion located and destroyed a weapons production location and dozens of weapons, including mortars, machine guns, grenades and intelligence documents that the Hamas terrorist organization had hidden alongside UNRWA equipment and uniforms,” he said.
The Israeli army launched a bloody offensive against the Strip following the attacks carried out on October 7 by Hamas and other Palestinian factions, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 240 kidnapped. The Gaza authorities have reported nearly 38,200 dead, in addition to more than 550 Palestinians killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in operations by Israeli forces or in attacks perpetrated by settlers.
