Israel is preparing for a possible attack by Iran that could occur as soon as this Friday or Saturday, a source familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.

According to this version, Iran would be preparing a direct attack against the south or north of Israel for the next two days.

The newspaper cited, however, another source according to which the Iranian government continues to discuss plans to attack Israel and has not yet made a final decision.

The White House explained this Friday that it considers Iran’s threats against Israel “credible” and promised that it will provide the Israeli Government with all the necessary help to defend itself.

Iran has threatened retaliation against Israel for the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus that killed seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard last week, as well as destroying the building attached to the Tehran embassy, which was the residence of the Iranian ambassador.

US intelligence predicted earlier this week that an Iranian attack on Israeli targets was imminentbut it now appears that the attack would be within Israel’s borders, the Wall Street Journal added.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant affirmed that his country is “shoulder to shoulder” with the United States after meeting this Friday with the head of the US Central Command (Centcom, in English) General Michael “Erik” Kurilla.
