Israel carries out deepest attack in Lebanon since conflict broke out

TEL AVIV – Israeli airstrikes hit a convoy of trucks in Lebanon’s Hermel region near the border with Syria, killing several people.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said three Hezbollah members were among those killed.

This marks the northernmost attack on Lebanon since clashes erupted between Israel and Hezbollah on October 8, a day after the start of the war in Gaza.

The Israeli military said it struck a Hezbollah compound belonging to the group’s Unit 4400, which it said was tasked with “logistical force enhancement”.

Israel added that the attack was a response to the shooting down of an Israeli drone in southern Lebanon by Hezbollah on Monday (10/6/2024).

Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel have increased over recent weeks, with Israeli officials threatening to expand their military operations in Lebanon.

The Israeli military announced the death of four soldiers who died in a booby-trapped building in Rafah, southern Gaza on Monday.

This data increases the number of Israeli soldiers killed in ground operations in Gaza to 299 people.

An Israeli attack on an apartment in Gaza City killed eight people, mostly children, and injured several others.

Another bombing of a house in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, killed three people.
