GAZA – Dutch airline KLM has cancelled all flights to and from Tel Aviv airport in Israel until October 26th.

KLM’s decision comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, which was widely blamed on Israel.

Several other airlines – including Air France, Germany’s Lufthansa, the US’s Delta and United, and Swiss International Air – have also suspended flights to Israel in recent days.

Previously, Wizz Air temporarily suspended all its scheduled flights to and from Israel and Jordan, citing the “escalating situation in the region”.

The suspension will be in effect until August 4, he said in a post on X.

The low-cost carrier joins several other airlines that have suspended flights to the Middle East amid concerns that Iran and armed groups allied with it could launch retaliatory attacks on Israel following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr.

Meanwhile, Israeli officials say they are prepared for a variety of scenarios amid potential retaliatory strikes by Iran, Hezbollah and possibly other members of the “axis of resistance.”

Currently, they say there is no change in the frontline command guidelines, but they are ready for any situation.

Earlier on Friday, the Israeli military tested a type of precision missile by the Israeli navy. They said it was a test conducted as an interceptor.
