Negotiations between representatives of the Palestinian Hamas movement and Israel in Cairo ended without reaching an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Liter.kz reports with reference to Reuters.
According to the agency, the Palestinian side refused to accept the conditions because Israel did not agree to withdraw troops from the Philadelphia Corridor, a narrow strip of land along Gaza’s southern border with Egypt.
“Hamas said Israel had failed to fulfill its commitment to withdraw from the corridor and made new demands, including screening Palestinians returning to the more populous northern part of the enclave after the ceasefire was imposed,” the newspaper reported.
Meanwhile, the agency “Anatolia” reports that Hamas supports the ceasefire proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden on July 2.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Israel had agreed to withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip as part of the agreement with Hamas.
Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, more than 40 thousand people have died, according to reports.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly stated that Israel will not stop fighting in Gaza until Hamas is completely destroyed.
In early August, the United States announced that it was preparing to repel a possible Iranian attack on Israel.
It was later revealed that Israel plans to build a wall on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt to prevent the Palestinian Hamas movement from building underground tunnels.
Lebanon recently attacked Israel with 55 rockets.
On the night of August 21-22, the Israeli Air Force carried out a series of strikes on targets associated with the terrorist organization Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
